BRONCOS GET A REALITY CHECK

Denver’s 31–10 loss in Arrowhead exposed problems on both sides of the ball.

The Broncos didn’t just lose Monday night. They got a reality check.

Kansas City handed Denver a 31–10 loss in a game where the Broncos struggled to establish any consistency on either side of the football.

Bo Nix and the offense never seemed to settle into a rhythm. There were mistakes, fumbles and moments where Nix appeared to be pressing—trying to make something happen instead of allowing the offense to develop around him.

To me, this is where Nix has to get back to the fundamentals. Last season created expectations. Now the challenge is not trying to do too much because of those expectations.

THE BIGGER CONCERN: DENVER’S DEFENSE

But as rough as the offense looked, my biggest concern coming out of Monday night was Denver’s defense.

Kansas City was able to establish the run and keep coming back to it. Kenneth Walker III finished with 173 rushing yards, and Patrick Mahomes was able to hurt Denver with his legs as well.

For a defense expected to be one of this team’s strengths, that can’t become a pattern.

Denver has to get back to the basics: control the line of scrimmage, tackle consistently and stop the run before worrying about everything else an offense can throw at you.

It’s Week 1. One bad night doesn’t define an entire season.

But 31–10 is a reality check.

The Broncos have time to correct it. Now we get to see how they respond.
